Speech Ilse Derluyn

Prof. dr. Ilse Derluyn represented Centre for Children in Vulnerable Situations during a panel discussion at the United Nations. Keynote speaker during the panel was Queen Mathilde of Belgium emphasizing the need for reintegration of former child soldiers.

Prof. dr. Derluyn also emphasized this need, arguing support for former child soldiers, and other persons affected by war and armed conflict, should go beyond war-related stressors to include daily stressors and challenges as well. Reintegration needs to be perceived as a long-term process and there is need for a social, systemic approach.
